At a glance
A coauthored study connected interoperable health-data infrastructure with the practical experience of patients and clinicians.
I coauthored this study, published in 2021, contributing technical development and manuscript review. The six-month observational proof-of-concept involved 30 people with rheumatoid arthritis, alongside nine physicians.
PICASO combined clinical information, home monitoring and patient questionnaires in patient and clinician dashboards. Interfaces followed HL7/FHIR, and the architecture supported access across organisations while keeping source data with their owners.
At the final assessment, physicians used the dashboard in 25 of 29 assessed patient visits. Participants generally valued the additional overview, although responsiveness and data-transfer problems remained.
The findings concern feasibility and acceptance in a small clinical setting. Longer-term health outcomes required further study, and additional AI capabilities were proposed as future work. Data were available on reasonable request.
